More than 8,800 BTO flats have been built in Tengah, and residents are starting to move into the Garden district
Over 8800 Housing Board flats in Tengah are completed, which is more than 40% of the 23,000 flats that have been offered to date in the brand-new town.
Garden, the second of the five Tengah housing districts that are being constructed has also seen residents moving into their new residences. Plantation is the first of five housing districts to be constructed in Tengah.
The keys to the 2,936 units of Garden which is 89 per cent of the booked 3,306 units were collected.
In total, 7,921 households have received the keys to their apartments in eight Build-To-Order (BTO) projects located in the Plantation and Garden districts as of Nov 15.
The first batch of Tengah residents received keys to their homes in the Plantation district at the end of August 2023.
The 700ha area to the west, billed as an environmentally friendly “forest town” that is car-free, is the first HDB town developed in over 20 years.
Tengah is divided into five districts and will be able to provide around 42,000 new houses when it is completed.
Tengah’s Garden district, which covers 80ha, is expected to create up to 6,500 new homes when completed.
In November, a part of the 900m long green connector called Garden Farmway was inaugurated. It connects residents with recreation facilities such as playgrounds, allotment gardens, and fitness facilities.
Another section is expected to be completed by the beginning of the quarter of 2025. HDB said in its update on the town.
Garden Vines @ Tengah project is scheduled to begin its first quarter of operation in 2025. It will feature the supermarket and restaurant for residents of the Garden district. A bakery as well as dental and medical clinics are also planned.
The Plantation Farmway will be completed within the Plantation District, which is located adjacent to the town by 2024. It connects four BTO projects to the first neighbourhood centre.
By then, a community club will be in place.
HDB has announced that 40 new shops and eateries are now open at the Plantation Plaza neighbourhood centre, including a Swensen’s restaurant, hardware store DIY Hub and Teo Heng Family KTV Studio.
In June, the first company to open was a Giant supermarket. A foodcourt called Koufu was followed by a McDonald’s restaurant.
In August and September two preschools within the Plantation Grange BTO project as well as the Plantation Acres BTO project were opened. In 2025, two more preschools will be established within the Plantation district.
As for the Garden district, HDB said it is working with the Early Childhood Development Agency to gradually open pre-schools in every BTO project that it has.
Four bus services are accessible for residents. The City Direct bus service 674 started operations on November 25, taking Tengah residents to the Central Business District. Three other bus services 992, 870 871 and 870 871 transport residents to Bukit batok as well as Jurong East.
Tengah Town will develop quickly and further infrastructure and amenities within and around Tengah will be beneficial to residents and provide them with the same conveniences that other HDB towns.
